DANCE & SPORTS CONDITIONING

Safe Movement Education for Young Athletes & Performing Athletes

This program gives the young athlete or performing athlete, the tools to understand safe practices for stretching and strengthening, so that they can progress and accomplish their goals. As adolescents move through their growth spurt in their early to mid teens, flexibility, coordination and proprioception decreases, yet in some cases training and competition intensifies, leaving young movers vulnerable to injury.
We are experienced in guiding young athletes through safe movement practices, so that they understand how their body moves and therefore decrease injuries and increase their performance.

MOVEMENT WORKSHOP TOPICS TO EXPLORE

  • Most adolescents experience tight hamstrings through their growth spurt, so hip proprioception and articulation can be lost, therefore destabilising the spine. We start with relearning how to articulate the hip joints for better running, jumping and kicking, as well as safe stretching practices. This one teaching tool alone can improve diaphragm and core function.

  • Breathing and dynamic core stability.

  • Defining and strengthening spine, hip & shoulder rotation. Very important in turnout for dancers, but also for rotational sports such as golf, tennis and surfing.

  • Strengthening lateral stabilisers. These muscles keep us moving forward with more speed and efficiency.

  • Strengthening and aligning head, neck and shoulders for better weight bearing. Important for surfing, paddling & popping up, throwing sports, and often neglected in training for contemporary dancers.

  • Foot focus for dancers, runners, jumpers.

  • We can tailor of workshops to your sports club's needs.
